Born in 1978 in south central Nebraska.  Derek cut his teeth hunting the famed Rain Water Basins and Platte river around Kearney NE.  At an early age Derek was introduced to all types of outdoor activities from fly fishing, to hunting deer and turkeys.  He is also an accomplished horse trainer and team roper.  However, waterfowl was by far his favorite and has turned into a career . Hunting well over 100 days a season . Derek starts in September where he guides for Honker Down Guide Service out of McHenry ND.  Then follows the migration south to the peanut fields of west Texas where he guides for Ranger Creek Goose Guide Service.  Derek resides in Texas with his wife Cicely, his son Pierce and another boy on the way . When he is not hunting you will find him training his labs, Cabo and Gus or on a calling stage.  Derek is a two time Nebraska State goose calling champion as well as a three time Texas state goose calling champion with many other wins and top five finishes .
